About Serena
Serena R. MacMaster is a Creative Writing MFA student at Southern New Hampshire University, where she also received her Master of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing. She also has a bachelor’s degree in public relations, and an associate’s degree in digital illustration. Because let’s be honest, does anyone ever really have it all figured out?
Serena is a big kid with a wild imagination, who questions everything and still believes in magic and mythology. She has spent much of her life in Southern Maine, where she currently resides with her husband and the wickedest cat in the world, Aleister Catley. She has been called strange, bizarre, crazy, and even “properly weird” (courtesy of her British brother), but she’s totally cool with that, because being weird is better than being boring.
Though she is fascinated by the concept of duality, Serena doesn’t see the world in black and white. She believes that rules are meant to be broken (within legal limits) and that people should experience as many things as they can, so she doesn’t limit herself to categorical labels or interests. She enjoys sunbathing and sitting on the beach in the rain listening to Morrissey. She enjoys books, television programs and films across all genres. She loves music by BTS, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Winger, Tom Waits, Rachmaninoff, Celine Dion and Michael Bolton (especially Celine Dion and Michael Bolton).
Serena is currently working on her first novel, A Place Between Shadow and Light. The novel focuses on two immortal characters, one who is part angel and one who is part demon, and questions the relationship between organized religion and mythology, as well as the nature of our representations of good and evil. When she isn’t writing or studying, she enjoys binge watching Dark Shadows, watching people eat noodles on Instagram and TikTok, and spending time with her super cool parents, husband, and siblings.
Serena does not play tennis.
